Hey crypto addicts,

Zcash is strengthening its network security ahead of its upcoming NU7 mainnet upgrade, with the Zcash Foundation revealing seven security fixes included in Zebra 7.0.0. The vulnerabilities could allow attackers to disrupt node synchronization, exhaust verification resources, disconnect legitimate peers, or crash node software. Five of the issues were classified as high severity, highlighting the importance of addressing infrastructure risks before the protocol undergoes a major upgrade.

The fixes arrive as NU7 approaches activation, currently expected around November 5 at block height 3,543,405. The upgrade will reduce Zcash's target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, making transaction confirmations significantly faster while preserving its existing daily issuance and 21 million ZEC supply cap. Node operators must update their software before activation to remain on the network's consensus chain, as outdated nodes may become incompatible.

Beyond security improvements, the upgrade introduces changes to transaction fees and network sustainability, including a mechanism that directs 60% of transaction fees into a reserve for future block rewards. The developments reflect Zcash's broader effort to improve performance and strengthen its long-term infrastructure as demand for privacy-focused blockchain technology continues to evolve. Binance Hacker Launders

The fallout from Binance’s massive $6.34 billion security breach continues as the attacker moves deeper into laundering stolen assets. On-chain monitoring firm Onchain Lens reported that a wallet linked to the hacker deposited 8,567 SOL, worth approximately $798,000, into Privacy Cash, a Solana-based privacy mixer designed to obscure transaction trails. The move signals another attempt to make tracking the stolen funds more difficult as investigators monitor activity across multiple blockchains.

The latest transfer follows earlier movements involving new wallets, lending vaults, liquid-staking services, and Bitcoin conversions. Elliptic also traced approximately 87,000 SOL, valued at $8 million, away from the original theft wallet, alongside 28 BTC routed through CoinJoin transactions. Meanwhile, Binance co-CEO Richard Teng said the exchange has replenished 98% of the affected assets, although replacing customer funds does not mean the stolen crypto has been recovered.

The incident highlights the growing complexity of tracking illicit crypto flows, particularly when attackers combine cross-chain transfers with privacy-enhancing tools. It also raises fresh questions about exchange security, internal access controls, and the challenges investigators face when stolen assets move through decentralized infrastructure. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕

Phishing Threatens Crypto

Crypto security is facing a growing challenge that may have less to do with sophisticated technology and more to do with human behavior. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has warned that phishing and social engineering represent the biggest threats to cryptocurrency users, arguing that deceiving people is far easier than breaking cryptographic systems. His warning comes amid a wave of security incidents that have exposed vulnerabilities across exchanges and personal wallets.

Yakovenko recommends a dedicated iPhone running Apple's Lockdown Mode alongside a multisignature wallet as a practical way to strengthen personal security. The advice comes as Chainalysis recorded $713 million in personal wallet theft during 2025, affecting at least 80,000 victims. Recent attacks have also shown how fake job interviews, malicious software, and stolen credentials can give attackers access to systems responsible for authorizing crypto transactions.

The warning highlights a critical weakness across the industry: even the strongest blockchain infrastructure cannot protect users who are tricked into surrendering access or approving malicious transactions. As phishing tactics become increasingly sophisticated, exchanges, developers, and individual holders face growing pressure to strengthen security practices and treat human-targeted attacks as a major operational risk. Wall Street Goes Perpetual

The US derivatives market is entering a new chapter as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) clears the way for perpetual futures tied to individual stocks to trade on eligible American exchanges for the first time. The decision brings a crypto-native trading product into traditional equity markets, allowing traders to gain long or short exposure to stocks without owning the underlying shares or facing a fixed contract expiration. It also marks another major step in Washington’s effort to bring previously offshore trading activity under domestic regulatory oversight.

Under the new framework, equity perpetuals will operate as security futures products subject to both CFTC and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules. Exchanges must hold CFTC registration and the required SEC registration to list these contracts, while proposed products from platforms including Kalshi, Coinbase Derivatives, and Bitnomial outline margin requirements and trading structures. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said the move aims to give American traders access to innovative derivatives within a regulated environment rather than relying on offshore venues.

The decision reflects the growing influence of crypto trading models on traditional finance, as perpetual futures expand beyond Bitcoin and other digital assets into stocks and potentially broader financial markets. However, concerns around leverage, investor protection, and regulatory classification remain, with critics questioning whether existing safeguards are sufficient for these products. As Wall Street and crypto platforms increasingly converge, the development could reshape how investors access leveraged markets. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕
