Hey crypto addicts,

Revolut has disclosed sensitive customer information after falling for a fraudulent request that appeared to come from a legitimate government agency. The request used an official government email domain and passed authentication checks, leading Revolut to believe it was genuine before later discovering the deception.

The exposed information reportedly included identity documents, verification selfies, addresses, account statements and full transaction histories, including Bitcoin activity. Revolut says customer funds, passwords and account access were not compromised, but linking real identities with crypto transactions creates a serious risk of targeted phishing and fraud.

The incident highlights a bigger problem for crypto users: personal data can be just as valuable as the assets themselves. Unlike a password or card, a leaked identity tied to historical Bitcoin activity cannot simply be changed, making strong verification procedures critical even when a request appears to come from an official source.☕

Dirty Money Auctioned

Singapore is turning the aftermath of its massive money-laundering case into a public auction, with hundreds of luxury items now going under the hammer. The first sales include 338 handbags and accessories and 286 pieces of jewellery, with total estimates reaching up to S$3.9 million.

These are only the beginning. More than 1,000 luxury items and over 80 properties tied to the S$3 billion case are expected to be sold in phases through 2027, with proceeds going into Singapore’s Consolidated Fund. Some of the assets in the wider investigation included cryptocurrency, cash, vehicles and high-value property.

Beyond the luxury goods, the auctions show how authorities are turning seized wealth back into state assets after one of Singapore’s biggest financial-crime investigations. The case also highlights how crypto and traditional financial channels can intersect in large-scale money laundering, making asset tracing and recovery increasingly important.☕

AI Threatens Crypto

Banks may soon have only minutes to respond to software vulnerabilities that once took weeks to become dangerous. A new BIS warning says advanced AI can identify weaknesses and develop working exploits much faster, raising the stakes for financial institutions — and the crypto industry, where billions of dollars can move onchain within seconds.

The risk is especially relevant to crypto because exchanges, wallets, bridges, smart contracts and custody systems are constantly exposed to automated attacks. A vulnerability that once gave developers hours or days to react could potentially be exploited before a patch is even deployed. At the same time, AI can help security teams detect threats and respond faster.

The bigger picture is a new cybersecurity arms race. As financial markets become increasingly connected to blockchain infrastructure, the speed of an AI-driven attack could matter just as much as the size of the funds at risk. For crypto, where transactions are often irreversible, having minutes to respond may already be too slow.☕

UK Crypto Deadline

UK crypto firms now have a five-month window to apply for full Financial Conduct Authority approval, with applications opening September 30 and closing February 28, 2027. Firms already registered for anti-money-laundering purposes will still need separate authorization for regulated crypto activities under the new framework.

The change marks a major shift for the UK crypto market. Exchanges, custodians, stablecoin issuers and certain staking providers will need to meet broader financial-services requirements, while firms that apply on time and meet the conditions may continue specified activities while their applications are reviewed.

The bigger picture is the UK trying to turn crypto from a lightly regulated sector into a fully supervised part of its financial system. Clearer rules could give banks and institutions more confidence to enter the market, but firms that fail to secure approval could face serious restrictions once the new regime begins in October 2027.☕
