Hey crypto addicts,

Kalshi’s growing legal battle with U.S. states could create a fragmented prediction-market landscape, with access potentially depending on where traders live. Conflicting federal court rulings are already creating different rules across the country.

New Jersey and Nevada have received opposing rulings over whether states can regulate Kalshi’s sports contracts as gambling, despite the platform operating under CFTC oversight. With dozens of cases now spread across more than 20 states, the legal uncertainty is expanding.

The bigger picture is the future of prediction markets in the U.S. If courts continue reaching different conclusions, liquidity and market access could become fragmented between states and platforms. A Supreme Court decision may ultimately be needed to establish a single national framework.☕

Market Watch ☕

Bitcoin Gets Insured

CoinCorner has launched a new Bitcoin custody service for UK customers, combining multi-signature security with insurance backed by the Lloyd’s of London market. The service is designed for holders who want stronger protection without having to manage their own hardware wallets.

The Vault uses keys split between CoinCorner and custody provider AnchorWatch, meaning neither company can move the Bitcoin independently. Customers pay a 1.5% annual fee, while the insurance is designed to cover certain losses involving lost keys and unauthorized access.

The bigger picture is the growing demand for safer Bitcoin custody as security incidents continue affecting the industry. For less technical users and larger investors, combining multisig protection with insurance could make professional-grade Bitcoin storage more accessible.☕

Copper Sale Struggles

Copper’s CEO Amar Kuchinad has left the crypto custody firm as its search for a buyer enters its fourth month. The company is reportedly seeking $500 million, but potential buyers have offered closer to $200 million, highlighting the pressure facing the business.

Copper has built a name in institutional crypto custody and settlement through its ClearLoop platform, which allows clients to trade while keeping assets in custody. However, competition from larger crypto firms and traditional financial institutions has made the market increasingly difficult.

The bigger picture is the changing value of crypto infrastructure companies. Copper was once valued at more than $2 billion, making the reported offers a dramatic decline. Its sale could signal further consolidation across the institutional custody sector as stronger players look to acquire technology and clients at discounted valuations.☕

USDC Transfers Improve

Circle has introduced prepaid fees for CCTP Fast Transfers, making cross-chain USDC transactions more predictable for users and developers. Instead of deducting fees from the amount received, users can now pay the transfer costs upfront.

Fees can be paid in USDC or the source chain’s native gas token, while Circle’s Quote API combines multiple charges into a single quote. This means users can know exactly how much they are sending and how much will arrive on the destination chain.

The update could make cross-chain payments smoother and easier to integrate, especially for wallets, exchanges and DeFi applications. As stablecoin usage continues expanding across multiple networks, improving the speed and predictability of USDC transfers could help strengthen Circle’s position in the growing cross-chain payments market.☕
