Hey crypto addicts,
Crypto options are gaining traction, but Hypercall founder Jake Sylvestre says the market needs to become much simpler if it wants to compete with perpetual futures. Hypercall recorded $536 million in September notional volume, bringing its total trading volume to $592 million since launching in June. Sylvestre argues that options remain difficult for traders because liquidity is spread across numerous strikes and expiries, unlike perps, which offer a simpler long-or-short experience.
His solution is to make options trading more intuitive by allowing users to express a market view, choose a dollar amount and receive a defined-risk position without navigating complex options chains. He also called for tighter spreads, continuous market-maker quotes and better volatility data, while shared margin accounts could allow traders and market makers to hedge options exposure directly through perpetual markets. These changes could make options more accessible while improving liquidity and reducing one of the biggest barriers to adoption: trading costs.
The bigger picture is that crypto derivatives are expanding beyond traditional futures as platforms compete to bring more sophisticated financial products onchain. If options can match the simplicity and liquidity that made perpetuals so popular, they could become a much larger part of crypto trading. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕

Derivatives Go Global

Coinbase has completed its integration with Deribit, opening a regulated route for eligible U.S. institutions to access one of the world’s largest crypto derivatives markets. Through Coinbase Prime and Coinbase Financial Markets, institutional clients will gain access to Deribit’s options and perpetual futures, bringing global derivatives liquidity into a CFTC-regulated framework. The move is significant as derivatives account for roughly 80% of global crypto trading activity.
The integration follows regulatory relief from the CFTC that helped establish a pathway for U.S. institutions to access certain offshore derivatives markets. Coinbase says options access for U.S. Prime clients is expected to roll out in the coming weeks, while retail access will follow in a later phase. The combined platform also brings deeper liquidity, a faster matching engine, and a broader range of perpetuals, futures, options, and spot markets.
The bigger picture is that crypto derivatives are becoming increasingly integrated with regulated financial infrastructure. Coinbase’s connection to Deribit could give U.S. institutions easier access to global options and perpetual markets while pushing more sophisticated trading products into the regulated sector. As competition intensifies, liquidity, compliance, and access could become major drivers of the next phase of crypto derivatives. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕
XRP Goes Institutional

Paxos is expanding institutional access to XRP by adding the token to its Crypto Brokerage platform, allowing partner businesses to offer XRP trading, custody, deposits, and withdrawals. The move gives financial institutions a regulated infrastructure for supporting XRP without having to build their own crypto trading and custody systems. Paxos said XRP is already held across more than 8.1 million wallets, highlighting the asset’s growing reach.
The addition also strengthens Paxos’ position as a behind-the-scenes provider for major financial platforms. Its existing ecosystem includes companies such as PayPal, Venmo, Interactive Brokers, Charles Schwab, and Mercado Libre, although the new XRP support does not automatically mean each partner will list the token. For institutions, the key attraction is Paxos’ regulated infrastructure, which handles custody, trading, transfers, and compliance requirements.
The bigger picture is that XRP is gaining another route into traditional financial markets as regulated crypto infrastructure expands. Paxos adding XRP alongside other major digital assets could make it easier for banks, brokers, and fintechs to bring the token to their own customers. As institutional adoption grows, regulated access could become an increasingly important driver of crypto market expansion. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕
Bitcoin Eyes $100K

Bitcoin is entering October with analysts split over whether the long-awaited “Uptober” rally can push BTC toward $100,000 within weeks. SideShift founder Andreas Brekken expects a strong October, while Bitfinex analysts see $84,000 as the key support that could determine whether short sellers become trapped. Bitcoin recently slipped below $84,000 after failing to hold its latest move toward $87,000, putting the market at an important technical crossroads.
The bullish case depends on renewed spot buying and stronger ETF inflows rather than seasonal optimism alone. Bitfinex says Bitcoin needs to reclaim roughly $87,722 and see ETF inflows return toward September’s daily average before a move toward $90,000 becomes more convincing. Nansen also warns that October’s historically strong performance does not guarantee a bottom, with liquidity, macro conditions, positioning, and real demand remaining more important.
The bigger picture is that Bitcoin’s path toward $100,000 will likely depend on whether buyers can overcome resistance while macro conditions remain supportive. Falling rate-hike expectations and stronger ETF demand could fuel another leg higher, but weak spot buying and elevated Treasury yields remain key risks.
