Hey crypto addicts,

A fresh wave of activity linked to the Mercado Bitcoin security breach has raised concerns about where the stolen funds could move next. The attacker reportedly transferred approximately $8 million worth of Ethereum, drawing attention to the possibility of further laundering through privacy-focused services such as Tornado Cash. The movement comes as investigators continue tracking assets stolen from one of Brazil’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges.

The transfer follows a broader breach estimated at more than $40 million across at least 10 blockchains. Mercado Bitcoin suspended deposits and withdrawals while investigating, but said customer funds were not affected and no personal data was compromised. Blockchain investigators have continued monitoring the attacker’s wallets, while Tether and Paxos have frozen some assets linked to the incident

The movement highlights the challenges of recovering stolen crypto once funds begin moving through fresh wallets and cross-chain services. Although Tornado Cash has emerged as a potential next destination, there is no confirmation that the attacker has used the mixer. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕

Wall Street Goes Onchain

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is moving closer to bringing traditional stocks onto blockchain infrastructure after adding four new transfer-agent partners to its planned tokenized securities platform. Broadridge, Computershare, Equiniti, and Superstate join existing partners Securitize and tZERO, expanding the network to six firms supporting the exchange’s digital securities ambitions.

The planned platform aims to offer 24/7 stock trading, instant settlement, and stablecoin-based funding while preserving traditional shareholder rights, including dividends and governance. The new partners bring together established Wall Street infrastructure and blockchain-native expertise, with three traditional providers collectively serving nearly 5,000 publicly listed companies, including almost 99% of S&P 500 firms.

The expansion reflects growing competition among traditional financial institutions to establish a foothold in tokenized securities, as exchanges explore ways to modernize ownership records and market infrastructure. With NYSE now strengthening its partnerships, the transition toward blockchain-powered capital markets is gaining momentum, potentially reshaping how stocks are traded, settled, and held in the years ahead. Crypto.com Retreats

Crypto.com is preparing to shut down its consumer-facing app in Hong Kong on February 1, 2027, marking a significant pullback from one of Asia’s closely watched digital asset markets. The decision comes as the company continues to face regulatory uncertainty, with its local exchange license application still awaiting final approval from Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). Affected customers have already been notified and will receive instructions on closing their accounts and withdrawing their funds.

The move does not mean Crypto.com is abandoning Hong Kong entirely. Its local subsidiary, Foris DAX HK Limited, will continue pursuing a Virtual Asset Trading Platform license for the company’s institutional-grade exchange, despite having submitted its application in February 2024 without receiving full approval. The company says the decision reflects efforts to optimize global operations and focus resources on markets offering more sustainable long-term opportunities.

The withdrawal highlights the challenges crypto exchanges face as regulators tighten licensing requirements across major financial hubs. Hong Kong has been working to establish a regulated digital asset market, but Crypto.com’s decision shows that navigating the approval process can also lead companies to reconsider their retail operations. Solflare Locks Down

Solana-based wallet provider Solflare has entered what its co-founder calls “bunker mode,” tightening internal security controls following a series of major attacks across the crypto industry. The company has restricted access to its infrastructure and code, introduced multiple approval requirements for changes, and temporarily stopped new additions to its systems. The decision reflects growing concerns over security vulnerabilities as crypto platforms face increasingly sophisticated attacks.

The move also follows an October security incident involving a third-party staking provider that affected keys associated with Solflare’s validator. Although approximately 1.56 million SOL in delegated assets temporarily stopped generating staking rewards, Solflare confirmed that customer funds remained safe and no user balances were stolen. The company has since introduced a replacement validator and extended its migration deadline to November 30, promising to cover missed rewards between October 26 and November 1.

Solflare’s response highlights how recent crypto attacks are pushing companies to reconsider internal security practices, particularly around infrastructure access, third-party providers, and software changes. While tighter controls may slow development, the priority is now protecting systems and maintaining user confidence as the industry faces another wave of security challenges. Central banks bought the gold dip. Did you?

From 2002 to 2010, central banks sold a net 134 million ounces of gold. Since then they have bought all of it back, and another 111 million ounces on top.

In the second quarter of 2026, they added 289 tonnes while gold fell 14%. Falling prices used to scare official buyers off. Now they buy the dip.
