Hey crypto addicts,
Dogecoin has plenty of recognition, but Bitwise’s decision to close its Dogecoin ETF shows that popularity does not always translate into investment demand. The fund, which launched less than a year ago, is expected to stop trading on October 14 after holding only around $722,000 in assets as of September 8. Across the three U.S. Dogecoin ETFs, 166 of 199 trading days recorded zero net flows, highlighting just how limited fresh capital has been.
Bitwise said the closure is part of an effort to optimize its product range around changing investor needs, rather than directly citing weak demand as the reason. Yet the numbers tell a clear story, with Dogecoin ETFs generating roughly $300 million in cumulative trading volume compared with much stronger activity from products linked to assets such as Zcash and Hyperliquid. Easy brokerage access was never the main barrier for DOGE, and the ETF experience suggests investor interest needs to go beyond familiarity with the asset.
The closure also highlights a wider shift in the altcoin ETF market, where investors are becoming more selective about which assets deserve regulated exposure. Dogecoin may remain one of crypto’s most recognizable names, but ETF demand is increasingly showing where institutional and traditional-market interest is actually concentrating.☕

Kamino Goes Institutional

Kamino is making a major push into U.S. institutional finance by appointing Yieldstreet co-founder Michael Weisz as its new CEO. Weisz will lead the Solana-based lending protocol’s U.S. expansion as it targets institutional asset managers, financial platforms, and capital providers. The move signals Kamino’s growing focus on bringing tokenized assets deeper into traditional finance.
Kamino has already processed more than $650 billion in cumulative transaction volume and originated over $20 billion in loans. Its PRIME market surpassed $600 million in deposits within 107 days, while tokenized equities can also be used as collateral on the platform. Weisz brings more than two decades of fintech and private-market experience to the role.
The expansion comes as tokenized assets move beyond issuance toward lending, collateral, and broader financial applications. Kamino’s new U.S. strategy could further connect Solana-based DeFi infrastructure with institutional capital. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕
Ethereum Powers Malware

Ethereum is being used in an unexpected way as cybercriminals turn blockchain infrastructure into a tool for controlling malware. Security researchers have uncovered the KREMLIN malware campaign targeting Brazilian banking users, with more than 1,500 infected systems identified. The malware uses Ethereum smart contracts to store and update command-and-control server addresses, making the infrastructure harder to disrupt.
The campaign has been active across seven operations over roughly 15 months, using malicious Chrome and Edge extensions to steal credentials, cookies, and active banking sessions. Researchers found that attackers can change server locations through blockchain transactions without modifying or redistributing the malware itself. Despite its name, researchers found no evidence linking the campaign to Russia, with the attacks primarily targeting users in Brazil.
The case highlights how blockchain’s transparency and persistence can be repurposed for malicious infrastructure. As attackers experiment with smart contracts and decentralized systems, cybersecurity teams face a new challenge in tracking and disrupting threats that no longer rely entirely on traditional servers. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕
Bitcoin Faces Blackout

Ethiopia is cutting electricity supplies to Bitcoin miners as worsening dry conditions put pressure on the country’s hydropower system. Power deliveries have fallen to just 23% of contracted levels after reservoir inflows dropped 20%, forcing the government to prioritize households and manufacturers. The move highlights how dependent large-scale Bitcoin mining can be on local energy conditions.
Bitcoin miners have become a major part of Ethiopia’s power market, consuming almost one-third of the country’s electricity and generating 35% of Ethiopian Electric Power’s revenue last fiscal year. The utility initially reduced supply to 75%, then 50%, before reaching the current 23% level as conditions failed to improve. EEP plans to reassess the situation in October, with further cuts possible.
The disruption puts Ethiopia’s growing role as a low-cost, hydro-powered Bitcoin mining hub under pressure. It also shows how climate and energy constraints can quickly affect mining operations, even when electricity costs are attractive.☕
