Hey crypto addicts,
U.S. lawmakers are once again pushing for a permanent crypto market structure law as regulatory efforts from the SEC and CFTC face criticism for falling short. House Financial Services Committee Chair French Hill said agency action cannot replace legislation, especially after the Senate blocked the CLARITY Act in September. With only a limited number of congressional days remaining after the November elections, Hill is hoping lawmakers can revive the bill during the post-election lame-duck session.
The SEC and CFTC have continued developing crypto rules using their existing authority, including frameworks covering trading platforms and digital assets. However, Hill argues that only Congress can provide the lasting legal certainty the industry needs. The stalled legislation would also establish clearer boundaries between the two regulators and create a broader federal framework for crypto markets.
The bigger picture is that U.S. crypto regulation remains caught between agency action and congressional legislation. Whether the CLARITY Act returns after the elections could determine how quickly the industry gets a more permanent regulatory framework. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕

Uranium Hacker Convicted

A six-year-old DeFi exploit has finally reached a courtroom conclusion after a New York jury convicted cybersecurity consultant Jonathan Spalletta over the $55 million Uranium Finance hacks. Prosecutors said Spalletta exploited vulnerabilities in Uranium’s smart contracts during two attacks in April 2021, stealing about $54.7 million and ultimately forcing the platform to shut down. The conviction covers computer fraud and money laundering, with the charges carrying maximum sentences of 10 and 20 years respectively.
Authorities said Spalletta later moved the stolen funds through multiple crypto transactions, including the Tornado Cash mixer, before using some of the proceeds to purchase rare Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering cards, ancient coins and other collectibles. Law enforcement seized about $31 million in cryptocurrency linked to the thefts in 2025, along with several valuable collectibles from his residence. Spalletta is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 16.
The bigger picture is that the case shows how long-running DeFi exploits can continue to have legal consequences years after the original attack. As regulators and law enforcement become more capable of tracing onchain transactions, major crypto thefts are increasingly followed by investigations, asset seizures and criminal prosecutions. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕
Hyperliquid Faces Scrutiny

Hyperliquid Labs has confirmed Singapore as its registered headquarters, putting the decentralized trading platform under renewed regulatory attention. The company says it is unregulated and has never claimed to hold a license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, which added Hyperliquid to its Investor Alert List in June. MAS has warned that the platform is not authorized or regulated in Singapore, raising questions about how its decentralized structure fits within existing financial rules.
The situation highlights the challenges regulators face when overseeing global platforms that operate without a traditional corporate or licensing structure. Hyperliquid says it remains open to working with regulators, while its permissionless infrastructure continues to serve users across different markets. The debate could become more important as institutional interest in decentralized trading platforms continues to grow.
The bigger picture is that DeFi is increasingly testing the limits of traditional financial regulation. Hyperliquid’s Singapore presence shows how difficult it can be for regulators to apply local rules to globally accessible, onchain platforms. Here’s what you need to know from today’s crypto market.☕
Sui Breaks Records

Sui has set a new throughput record, processing 40.6 million transactions per second during a live test in Singapore. The result was more than six times its previous 6.1 million TPS record from July and surpassed a 20 million TPS target set for the event. However, the activity ran through more than 10,000 programmable offchain tunnels rather than directly on Sui’s mainnet.
The test was designed around high-frequency activity between AI agents, with tunnels supporting payments, games, and chat applications. Sui says the channels can process activity offchain before settling and verifying the final state on its mainnet, potentially allowing thousands of interactions without putting every transaction directly onchain. CertiK independently audited the demonstration, with a more detailed review of the test data still expected.
The bigger picture is that Sui is positioning its infrastructure for a future where AI agents can make payments and interact autonomously at speeds far beyond human activity. The 40.6 million TPS figure is a major technical milestone, but its real impact will depend on whether the technology can translate into cheaper payments, useful applications, and broader adoption.
